SKIN RESURFACING TODAY

The technology used today replaces the once used ablative resurfacing that saw the plastic surgeon remove the top layer of skin from the patients face leaving the patient to then suffer with oozing, crusting and seepage from the treatment sites for weeks while the entire surface of the skin healed. Side effects were severe and complications such as hypo pigmentation common. This laser treatment is different in that it sends cones of energy into the skin creating an ablative thermal channel at the pixel area — a micro-injury — without disturbing the surrounding tissue. Those micro-injured areas start the process of healing and the untreated area acts as a reservoir for rapid restoration. As the fibroblasts in the skin are thermally injured in a controlled way, there is the initiation of new collagen and elastin which results in skin remodeling; visible tightening of the tissues and texture improvements.

FRACTIONAL SKIN RESURFACING

About Fractional

“Fractional” or “Pixel” skin resurfacing is the latest, state of the art, laser treatment for all areas of the body which have issues such as photo aging, traumatic or surgical scars, acne scars, dyschromia etc.

Its beauty lies in the fact that it gives excellent results but has little to no down time or side effects.

The Treatment

We ask that you come for your treatments with your skin clean and dry without makeup. A pure moisturizer is acceptable but should be free of perfumes and chemicals. In some cases, a topical anesthetic can  be applied for 20 – 40 pre treatment to help numb the treatment site and provide increased comfort for the patient. This anesthetic will be removed prior to the treatment. You will put on protective eyewear for the duration of the treatment. The laser will be passed several times at several different levels of intensity over the skin concentrating on areas of interest where damage is more severe.

Treatment Discomfort

The treatment is not painful or even recognizably uncomfortable. A feeling of warmth will increase as the treatment progresses and after the completion of the treatment the skin will feel as though you have a sun burn. That sun burn feeling will increase over the approx. 2 hours following the treatment, however, if you are consistent in your post treatment cooling efforts, the feeling of heat and sun burn will dissipate more quickly than if you do not post cool.

Post Treatment

Once the treatment has concluded, you will have cooling cloths applied to the area and a highly hydrating post moisture cream will be applied. The redness will last anywhere from several hours to several days depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. The more you cool the treated area the shorter you will feel sunburned and the swifter the redness will disappear. After several days the skin will flake (not peel) and you may feel like the skin is tight and dry. You will have a specialized, highly hydrating moisture cream to apply that will help with the dryness which can be applied in small amounts for the first several days. Depending on the aggressiveness of your treatment series, you will be able to apply mineral makeup as soon as the sunburn feeling has dissipated and you will be able to resume your normal daily activities immediately upon completion of the treatment. You should not use highly abrasive cleansers on your face nor should you use creams with heavy perfumes or chemical ingredients for several weeks post treatment series.

Number of Treatments

The number of treatments required and the spacing are dependent on several factors including; your age, level of damage and level of health which will determine the ability of your body to regenerate. Usually, the 3 treatments are delivered 2-4 weeks apart.

Results

The results will be evident within the first week after your treatment series begins and will continue to become evident as long as 6-12 months post treatment series. The fibroblasts deep in the tissues in the skin take time to regenerate and the process of collagen and elastin redevelopment take time to become fully complete. It is important to remember that we are always aging. The treatments offer prevention, correction and maintenance of your skins integrity and the length of time between treatment series will depend on your skin care regimen once the treatment series is complete. Your SKinTEGRITY Laser specialist will go over these recommendations during your treatment series.

CLEAR LIFT PIXEL

The No Pain, No down time version of Fractional resurfacing

About Clear Lift

ClearLift™ Pixel Q Switched laser is a collagen developing treatment which improves skin texture and tone, smoothes wrinkles, decreases skin laxity and diminishes brown age spots.

By targeting the neck lines, sagging skin, dark spots and fine lines all in one treatment, the Pixel Q-Switched Laser Facelift from Alma Lasers differs from traditional fractional laser skin resurfacing treatments. This is because it goes deeper into the dermis.

This means the regeneration of the collagen takes place with no injury to the skin’s surface. The main advantage is the patient’s comfort, as it’s a virtually painless procedure with no down time – all the while achieving great results.

The ultimate lunchtime quick fix, this treatment is described as the “laser neck lift” because of the dramatic results achievable after just 30 minutes. The laser works by treating the epidermis and upper dermis, creating tiny ablative zones which stimulate the growth of young, healthy tissue, and a greater collagen production rate.

Alma Laser’s ClearLift™ delivers a controlled dermal wound without harming the overlying epidermis, so that all stages of healing and skin repair occur under the intact epidermis (skin surface). This is why patients don’t see any peeling, flaking, redness or swelling. No numbing is required prior to treatment, and as the skin heals, it does not damage the outer layer (which means no pain during, or after the procedure).

This treatment can be done on all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI) without any danger for darker skin, and it usually takes three-four treatments to reveal satisfying results.

Finally, in combination with the Clear Lift™ laser for platysma band muscles, the only available treatment is still a neuromodulator such as Botulinum Toxin type A ® – which needs to be used by an experienced injector, as it’s done in a delicate area close to the airway flow.

For the patients who still want to undergo a surgical neck lift, Clear lift™ laser is an additional solution even after the surgery, as it delivers a rejuvenated skin with a youthful appearance

Because ClearLift heats deep beneath the skin (up to 3mm in depth) no numbing is required prior to treatment and all skin healing happens without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Used exclusively with the Harmony XL, ClearLift represents a new alternative to traditional laser skin resurfacing and laser skin surgery. Clear Lift offers many advantages:

Fast and Easy to use – Treatments in as little as 20 minutes

Virtually Painless, No Downtime

Visible improvement in skin appearance in as little as one treatment*

Laser Facelift: Am I suitable?

If you’re looking for a all-over facial rejuvenation without surgery, then the Laser Facelift might be for you. It’s suitable for all ages and most skin types with moderate signs of ageing and/or sun damage.

Laser Facelift: What’s the treatment like?

The Pixel Q-Switched laser divides up the light energy into multiple fractions that target deep into the dermis. The ‘damage’ it does then encourages the production of collage at this deep level for a lifting and tightening effect as well as improving the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin tone.

Laser Facelift: What about after?

The treatment takes just twenty minutes and patients report seeing an immediate plumping effect, but these results continue to improve over the next month as collagen is rebuilt. For best results, three to five treatments are recommended.

A touch-up treatment might be required six to 12 months later – your lifestyle can affect the longevity of the results and you should maintain a healthy lifestyle and take good care of your skin to get the most from your Laser Facelift treatment.

Laser Facelift: Are there any risks or side effects?

A ‘lunchtime lift’, the Laser Facelift has no downtime because the Pixel Q-Switched laser works deep underneath the skin’s surface, leaving no redness or tell-tale signs that give the game away. This means that normal activities can be resumed immediately.

MICRO DERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. Many different products and treatments use this method, including medical procedures, salon treatments and creams and scrubs that you apply yourself at home. It’s usually done to the face, chest, neck, arms or hands. Before we can understand how microdermabrasion does what it does, it’s important to understand how the skin works.

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

Microdermabrasion Effects

The principle is that if you remove or break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment, this causes mild edema (swelling) and erythema (redness). Depending on the individual, these side effects can last anywhere from an hour to two days.

This process has a few beneficial effects. With the stratum corneum gone, the skin’s surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin. As microdermabrasion temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of moisturizing creams.

Early studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatment at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well, removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.

The Treatment

The tool used shoots a stream of tiny crystals over the skin and collects the leftover dead skin cells and used crystals.

The vacuum action of the machine has four main functions:

It pulls and raises a small section of skin to work on.

It creates mild swelling and brings some of the impurities to the surface.

It shoots a stream of crystals across the targeted skin patch.

It collects the used crystals and dead skin for disposal.

Our treatment specialist steadily moves the tool over the target area, applying even and steady pressure to remove the stratum corneum without affecting the lower skin layers. A standard session usually consists of one to three passes with the tool. In most cases, the patient is then asked to apply specialized lotions and creams to the affected area between sessions. This re-hydrates the area and assists in promoting healthier new skin.

The optimum effects of Microdermabrasion are achieved through a progressive approach using a series of treatments over a period of time. Typically, the patient receives one treatment per week for 6 weeks.

Microdermabrasion can be delivered as a stand-alone procedure to improve the texture and appearance of the skin or in conjunction with the other laser treatments offered by SKinTEGRITY
